My Crazy Life

My life as I live it....

Long Time no Post...

I checked my blog the other day to see when the last time was I posted and it has been a while, I am sorry! A number of things have happened since then too!

The weekend after I posted last time (as in the 1st of October) I moved to a resedencia. Reasons for moving away from the host family to a resedencia will be left at personality clash between my roommate (yes, American) and myself. I have been very blessed during college with roommate so far and this time it just didn't work out.

So the beginning of the month I moved to a resedencia, which has definitely proven to be a great decision. I have a roommate named Jacqueline from California and we are living with 4 other people. Two more people are moving in shortly, a spanish guy today and a spanish girl tomorrow morning. After they move in there will be 4 Spaniards and 4 Americans. Here I speak more Spanish than in my host family (due to roommate) and I have relaxed quite a bit. There is a nice couple that does the cleaning, laundry and prepares the food. They are soo funny and I love chatting with them. Enrique, the man from the couple, speaks really fast, but I have started to understand him!

I moved on a Saturday and the Friday before I went to Huelva. Huelva is about one hour away from Sevilla and I was supposed to go on an excursion with my program, but somehow four of us had the wrong time (about one hour late) in mind and so we went by ourselves to Huelva. There is a monastery there and replicas of Columbus' ships there, very interesting. Yet the four of us ran into a small problem. They apparently changed the time because things closed as we got there. We arrived at the monastery first (after walking back to the stop we should have gotten off at) and it had just barely closed. So we decided to eat our bag lunches before exploring farther. Then when we explored farther and found the ships they were closing in 5 minutes for the siesta as well. We ended up playing around in the water outside of this building there and going back, completely failing to see what we wanted to see.

The trip back was kind of bizarre when we were waiting for the first of two busses. First we weren't sure which bus was ours, so we kept asking the bus drivers. Then this guy that was also waiting for a bus came over and chatted with us. Suddenly he asked me in German if we were with Erasmus (european study abroad scholarship) and naturally I responded in German they we are not. So he told me that I speak English with a German accent (which I hadn't been told since right after my year in Germany) and then asked me if the others can speak German. I told him no and he went to English. He is from Austria and was also headed back into town to look for an apartment for his year. On the bus we chatted in German some more.

A week ago I got to see the Museum of Fine Arts which is located in an old monastery. I really enjoyed it. There are some very beautiful gardens and a painting (or more than one?) by Lucas Cranach. It was a very enjoyable visit and very interesting in my mind.

Of all my classes I think I like my Anthropology class the most. Just the whole idea of Anthropology interests me and makes me wonder why I didn't think about it earlier! My professor is very animated which makes the class fun to attend. I also really like my historical projection of the three cultures: Christian, Muslim and Jewish a lot. That professor is also very animated and fun. Though it has proven to be very frustrating to find the book. I finally ordered it through a book store and gave up searching Sevilla for it.

Last Tuesday was a lot of fun for me. I am singing in the Choir of the University of Sevilla and there was a concert given by the University of Venezuela Choir (very good by the way) and before the concert all the new member of my choir got recognized and given a strip of cloth with the choir symbol on it. After the concert both choirs went out for food and drinks paid for by my choir. Oh yeah, free food is always good, especially since it really helped me get to know some Spaniards from the choir. That made me very happy. Verena (from Germany) and I walked to the concert together and after things quieted down at the get together afterwards she and I went to an apartment party of one of her friends. They had just gotten the apartment and wanted to have a get together. Afterwards I went with a group of people to the Erasmus party that was that night. The whole evening-night was just a blast. I spoke a ton of Spanish, met Spaniards and didn't here a single bit of American english the entire time!

Statement about the last bit: I feel at times that I am living in mini-America and I do not like it. I want to learn the language and culture and being in a mini-version of the US doens't help. So that was really good. I am really looking forward to choir tomorrow where I can talk with all the people again and reinforce names I learned and maybe start making plans to go out with Spaniards!

I will bring my computer down somewhere to put photos on my blog and on my facebook, maybe even tomorrow or Wednesday. Sorry about the lack of photos!
